Derek Miers on BPM Project Governance

Quick link to fellow OMG/BPMI board member Derek Miers' recent paper: Keys To BPM Project Success.

"With BPM projects springing up in most firms, a robust BPM project capability is now a competitive imperative. For those still standing on the sidelines, it is not a question of if they will engage in BPM oriented projects, just a question of when."

And then there is also Derek's paper on Developing A Repeatable BPM Delivery Capability (full disclosure: Lombardi sponsored this research) which is a companion piece to the above and takes the project methodology above down the path of version 2, 3, etc. of a given process. One of the key benefits of BPM technology is to make it easier to adapt to new business practices, and this not only requires a new technology, but also new delivery methods. Derek addresses those in this paper.

These should be required reading for anyone headed down the business process management path.

Good to know that Lombardi sponsors research. Maybe you guys could sponsor the folks at RedMonk to answer harder questions in this space...

Business process management requires a new set of technologies. When I started this blog in 2005, I wrote "By 2010, These will replace ERP as the primary focus of solution engineering at companies large and small." This has occurred. I also wrote" "By 2020, managing process through technology will be second nature to senior executives, and the transactional systems we use today will be like mainframes. My blog talks about BPM today, tomorrow and where we'll be in 2020." I still believe that. Welcome.
